New research indicates that acute kidney injury (AKI) [a condition where kidneys get acutely stressed] substantially increases the risks for future kidney damage and death.

Investigators conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of 82 studies that included more than 20 lakh patients and came to these conclusions.
